先日、高校1，2年生とリンデンホールスクールの高校2年生の生徒が、第1回日本語ラボを開催しました。これは、両校生徒が全世界のラウンドスクエア会員校の生徒対象に企画運営するオンライン日本語教室です。初回は、オーストラリアやインドで日本語を学んでいる40名ほどが、レベル別のオンライン授業に参加しました。授業は両校の生徒が半年前から共同で準備してきました。
今回の授業テーマは「自然」です。TierMakerを使って写真を分類したり、しりとりをしたり、楽しい時間となりました。企画運営した生徒たちの感想を紹介します。
今日は日本語ラボDay1でした！最初はネット環境のトラブルで原稿通りに動くことはできなかったがグループに分かれたあと、流れよく動くことができました。参加者の日本語力が予想以上良かったので、予定していたアクティビティがすぐ終わってしまいました。私のグループは万が一用のアクティビティを準備していたので、たくさんアクティビティをして楽しむことができました。次回はもっとレベルを高めたいと思います。参加者はみんな日本語が好きで積極的に答えてくれましたので、参加者ととても仲良くなれたと思います。
日常的に使っている日本語をほかの国の方に教えるのは、思ったより難しかったです。いい経験になったので、またプロジェクトに参加したいなと感じました。
今回初めてこういったプログラムに参加させていただきました。初めてだったということもあり、緊張しましたがいい経験になりました。レクチャー中にWi-Fi問題なども起きましたが冷静に対処して進められました。このプログラムを通して個人的に新たに発見したことがあります。それは生徒の積極性の違いです。日本だとわざわざ教師が名指ししないと発言をしないという人が多い傾向にあると思います。その為練習の際、誰も答えなかった場合のスクリプトも作成しました。ですがいざ問いかけてみると競争かのように積極的に発言をしてくださいました。日本ではあまり考えられない事だなと実感しました。改めてこのプログラムに参加したことで自分の世界観が広がった気がします。まだ第二弾もあるので引き続き頑張ります。
I think In today’s event, things went more smoothly than usual. There wasn’t a big delay in the schedule and the activities we made for the participants of the Japanese Lab were just enough to keep things going for the entire 30+ minutes. I think this event was well organized and executed and I think I personally got to refine my English Skills a bit as well.
This was the first of our three Japanese language lab sessions to be co-hosted with Linden Hall School, and we felt a great responsibility in preparing interesting activities, teaching insightful Japanese, and constantly keeping our participants engaged throughout our lesson. Our past experiences in organizing and hosting baraza sessions proved to be useful, and we actively took leadership in the course of preparation, from creating presentation templates to writing detailed scripts so that our classes would not be dominated by silence. While we stumbled across some wi-fi issues in the actual session, the most striking aspect was that a lot of people, even in beginner-level classes, were coming to our classes already with some basic knowledge about Japanese and of the country Japan in general. Therefore, during the lesson, I decided to take a risk and move away a little from our original plans, and started introducing more new words. I constantly engaged with our participants, asking them if the level was just right for them. I was amazed at how quickly they learned the words I taught them on the spot—to the point that I worried if the level I was teaching was too easy. But many of our participants replied that they did have a chance to learn new things, which, in the end, fulfilled our intentions.
