Tolerance In Our Own Wordsは、本校生徒が中心となって作成したエッセイ集です。コロナ禍、Round Square の理念IDEALSのS、Serviceの一環として実施しました。世の中にもう少し寛容性があれば、多様性を認める意識が高まれば、より生きやすくなるのではないか、という思いから、その素直な気持ちをエッセイにし、読者と気持ちを共有するために実施しました。インド、ペルー、アルゼンチンのラウンドスクエア校の生徒たちにエッセイ集の趣旨を伝えたところ、活動に賛同いただき、寄稿いただきました。

Tolerance in our own wordsは工学院RoundSquareでのService活動の第一歩となりました。この企画では世界中の人からTolerance Experienceを集めて、私たちが今後、Service活動をするときに何を重視するべきか、何を気をつけるかの参考となりました。自分と世界中の人たちのTolerance Experienceから多く学べて、今後の活動に学んだことを活用したいと思います。
当初はインターだから経験してきたintoleranceや疑問を文章にしようと考えていましたが、自分の過去と現在を振り返っていくうちに、intolerance の経験の有無は「インター」に限らず私たちが日々の生活で触れているものだと気づきました。時々感じる居心地の悪さや他者に否定されているような感覚は、(場合によりますが)「環境が自分の受け入れるべき個性などを受け入れていない/tolerateしていないからなのではないか？」と思うようになりました。Tolerance in our own wordsを通して色々な観点から学校生活や他者との関係に焦点を当て、今までの記憶や経験してきた感情を素直に綴った文章を書くことの難しさを体感しました。
Tolerance In Our Own Words is a writing project initiated by Kogakuin students that opened submissions for essays on the topic of tolerance from Round Square school students all over the world. As a result, we received 22 submissions from schools from India, Argentina, Peru and our school in Japan, so we decided to compile these writings in a mini-book and present them to you. We believe that tolerance is the opposite of insolence, and the opposite of insolence is also sincerity: tolerance for others cannot start without tolerance for the self, and you cannot lie to yourself. Tolerance is also the spirit of lightness that we share with others as we adorn ourselves with humor and joy… There are many interpretations of what tolerance means, but we hope that this little compilation would help in finding your own one.
