【Gleeson 2026】オーストラリア3か月留学日記14

アデレードのGleeson College に留学中のUさんからのブログが届きました。

Hi Kogakuin Blog!!

It’s been about four weeks since I arrived here, and I’m having such a great time! I did get sick at one point, which wasn’t ideal, but I’m feeling much better now.

At school, I’ve made some really lovely friends and there doesn’t feel like any kind of barrier between us. I actually started making friends on my second day of school, which made me feel so relieved and welcomed. It honestly makes me so happy when people say hi to me while I’m walking around campus. It literally makes my day. At first, I was a little worried about whether I would be able to make friends, but everyone has been so kind that there was nothing to worry about. Now I really feel like I am becoming a part of the school community. Even though I’m in a completely different country, the things we talk about here are actually very similar to what we talk about in Japan.

I’ve also been learning some new Aussie words. For example, people say “heaps” instead of “a lot” and “cheers” instead of “thank you.” It is actually pretty different from American English, and sometimes I get a little confused because certain words are pronounced or spelled differently. In Japan no one really asks me why I have an American accent, but here a lot of people ask about it. It has been a funny and new experience for me. But overall, it has been really fun picking up these small differences in everyday language.

I’m taking a psychology class, and it has been really interesting. We watched a documentary called Three Identical Strangers, and I was so intrigued by it. If you are interested in psychological experiments and real life studies, I definitely recommend watching it.

I also went out for brunch with my host mum, which was so thoughtful of her. I got an acai bowl, and it was so good. Recently, I’ve also discovered my favourite food here, Yochi (which is like frozen yogurt ice cream) and I love it.

My friend’s host mum invited me over for a game night, and it was honestly such a vibe. There were other international students there too, so I got to meet and talk to even more people. Not only that, but another friend’s host mum also let me hang out at her house and swim in the pool, which was so much fun.

Last Sunday, my host parents took me to Victor Harbor, and the view was amazing. It was such a beautiful place.

I’m so excited to continue challenging myself, trying new things, and making even more memories here. I can’t wait to see what the next six weeks bring.

See you in the next blog!
