Even young conquerors need a break sometimes, so today our Kogakuin explorers headed to the nearby island of Gozo to see how it is both a part of Malta and yet a bit different. First up was a visit to Dwejra where students could see ancient fossils captured in limestone. It was also a famous site used in several movie and TV productions, such as Game of Thrones.
Next up was a visit to to a sacred holy site known as Ta' Pinu. This church was founded because of a vision from a local woman. Miracles are said to happen here frequently. Two popes have even visited here.
Third on the list was a visit to a medieval citadel. Locals used to have to sleep within its walls due to mass raids from overseas tribes and empires. The top of the Cittadella gives a spectacular view of the whole island.
After a short break for shopping in Victoria it was time to cool off in the sea. Students visited Xlendi Bay for some fun in the sun. One area even allowed for diving in.- but only for the brave.
At last we took the ferry back to the main island to reflect on the day's experiences. A pizza party at the hotel helped to get the conversation going. One student named N-san had the following statement: "Today we took the ferry to Gozo Island. After arriving at Gozo, we first went to see fossils of sea creatures. Secondly, we learned about the Church of the Miracle of Ta-pinu, and then, we climbed to the top of the Citadel of Cittadella and had some free time. Finally, we had lunch at Clendi Beach and took the ferry back to Malta. Mr. Stanley was our guide!"
