No rest for the wicked as our Kogakuin group headed for Malta's famed three cities. These were the main population areas of the island before the Great Siege of 1565. The first city we visited was Sanglea. The just had a festival for the Feast of St. Lawrence so students could see the decorations being taken down. We took in a great view from a park overlooking the harbor - a strategic point for any army hoping to thwart an invading army. Student F-san said, "Today is Sunday.☀️I went to Senglea, Vittoriosa, and Marsaxlokk! At Senglea, We walked to the observation deck and saw the Grand Harbor and many houses. 🏠The observation deck had a monitoring tower with carvings of eye👀 and ear.👂 The scenery was so beautiful.✨ "
The second city we saw was Vittoriosa. It was named so after the Maltese we're able to defeat the invaders - victory! Students could see some of it's beautiful houses, some from as far back as the Normans in 13th century. We also had the chance to do some shopping and grab a bite to eat. F-san: "In Vittoriosa, we walked around the town and back alleys and had lunch.🍴 I went to a cafe and also ate cake. 🧁There was a beautiful landscape that you can't see in Japan, 🇯🇵and I thought I was dreaming. 💭
For the third city we took the bus south to Marsaxlokk. It was Sunday, and as coincidence it's also the day for the big weekly market. Students emptied their wallets to buy goods left and right. Especially prominent was the smell of fish that were caught fresh but out in the hot sun for several hours made the smell unbearable. F-san said, "At Marsaxlokk, we walked a lot and bought souvenirs! It is famous market in Malta.🇲🇹 I bought silverwork accessorie.🍀"
After the market, the exhausted Kogakuin group headed back to the hotel, where several had enough time to head to the pool. Where they get their energy I will never know. However, it was a fun day but don't take my word for it. Here is F-san reporting, "After the tour was over, we had free time and went to the pool!💧 I can't swim, but I had a great time.✨
Dinner was a chicken hamburger. 🍔It was chewy and delicious.🐓
