先日、高等学校1年生と2年生の生徒が、ラウンドスクエアの学校が参加する、Zoom Postcardというオンラインセッションを主催しました。オーストラリア、カナダ、中国、コロンビア、インド、パキスタン、ペルー、アメリカ、日本の9か国、15校から60人余りの生徒が参加しました。今回のテーマは「教育」です。学校でどのように学んでいるかを共有し、教育の在り方について考えました。
主催した生徒たちの感想を紹介します。
初めてのホストとしての参加、とても緊張しました。先輩方にとてもお世話になり感謝しています。ブレイクアウトルームで一人で司会を進めるのも緊張したけどいろんな学校の子たちがとても話しやすく、協力してくれたのが嬉しかったです。ディスカッションではいろいろなアイディアが聞けてとても興味深かったです。またzoom postcard に参加したいです。(高1女子）
今回のZoom Postcard meeting では、各国の教育方針について紹介し、意見を出し合いました。また、デメリットやメリットを考えてどうしたらより良くすることができるか考えました。私のグループでは、はじめに学校での先輩・後輩の関係について話し合いました。日本では、昔から先輩や年上を敬う文化がありますが、アメリカやオーストラリアではなくてそこの関係性が薄いのかもしれないと思っていました。しかし、海外の学校では部活以外にも他の学年と関わる機会が多くあり、入学したての新入生とペアを組んで助けてあげるという企画もあります。そして、各国の大学の入試方法についても話しました。日本では一般入試を受けるときは高校の成績がほぼ必要ないと言ったら、みんな驚いていました。「そしたらなんのために高校の成績があるの？」などと聞かれ、自分でもたしかに、なんでだろうと感じました。当たり前のことして受け入れていることが他の国の人からしたら驚くようなことだと改めて実感しました。とても貴重な話し合いとなったと思います。（高2女子）
今回のZoom Postcardは教育についてでした。現役の生徒である参加者たちは、教育について、自分たちの学校制度について、またその問題について等とても興味深い会話をしていて、とてもいいディスカッションにすることができました！数ヶ月ぶりにRSの活動に参加することもあり少し緊張しましたがいざ始まれば楽しい・興味深いなどの気持ちが上回って参加者たちと交流することができました。（高2女子）
I think I personally did a good job hosting the breakout room since it was my second time doing it. Also I think I did way better than my last experience being a host. I got to summarise the discussion and made everyone participate in an equal amount which I am very happy about. I was group 1 and in my group there were a few people who have experienced two different school from two different countries so we started off by asking their experience and comparing them. Also compared private and public schools. In the end of the discussion we ended up not getting a black and white answer by what I mean did not get a clear answer which is a merit or a demerit, instead we thought this would be a more personalised opinion in some cases. Since few of the people in my group preferred another schooling system which is the opposite their school is doing now. This discussion did not make us have a clear answer but I think our group thought of this topic from a different perspective which was not my expectations so it was really fun and interesting. I had a really good time and experience in this session.（高1女子）
In this Round Square Postcard session, we focused on the topic of education and how they differ among countries. In my baraza group we specifically focused on testing. Most participants agreed that while testing can be a way to assess one’s academic achievements and get to know places for improvement, it is hardly the only criteria that expresses oneself as a person. In fact, we do not live in this world to be measured in millimeters and to be assigned a purpose. But it is a convenient method to sort people in order visually, and to draw and to give a mute justification to those lines where every individual as persons would escape. In this way, testing might actually be for humanity when it is thought of in massive units, and not at all for the so-called “individual.” Testing is also an escape for some—escape from batting an eye to the thing without numbers, the mysterious, the unnamable but existing-always-like-a-widened-eye-thing, the person. In any case, we should never slack off from something that merely seems convenient or like a temporary escape. Those who see persons, sincere persons, in people, are in turn gifted with something: the ability to not know, to ask; because they do not understand the sole Measure of life too; they can only experience such things with their bodies; they are gifted with the ability to experience things. As Mozart speaks through the mouth of the conductor Teodor Currentzis: “Look, we are not our titles but merely bones. And it’s the ones who have the spirit in their bones…”（高2女子）
