Malta 2024 8/14

Students woke up excited for another cultural and language exchange with university students from STC. This time there was more emphasis on playing games and working together as a team to accomplish a goal. The first activity was getting to know each other through Two Truths and a Lie. The second activity was seeing which group could build the tallest structure only using noodles and marshmallows. The third activity was trying to sell a product or service using persuasive English. All the Kogakuin and university students loved it. High schooler K-san made the following remark, " Today, we communicated with university students for the second time.
In the evening, I enjoyed bowling with junior and senior high school students.
When communicating with the university students, we started with self-introductions, played a game of building a tower using pasta and marshmallows, and then made an advertisement. I communicated with the university students, discussed how to build it, and finally built a tower. I was happy to win. In the advertisement activity, we tried to make a presentation in front of everyone. I was nervous and made some mistakes, but it was a great experience. The fruit baskets that each person completed by drawing their own fruit pictures were really good. The fruit baskets that each person completed by drawing their own fruit pictures were really good. The university students this time were also kind. They listened to me and tried to understand my poor English."

The students had English lessons in the afternoon. Today they concentrated on various adjective forms and some information about Malta and its water. Several students even tried speaking to some other language learners from all over the world. The key to getting better at speaking English (and many other skills) is to BE BRAVE! Get out of your comfort zone.

As always here is the food picture. The Bolognese pasta was delicious. Also several students gave the cleaning staff origami presents. The staff in turn gave the students little gestures of kindness through towels and toilet paper. Amazing!

Students were MOST looking forward to the evening activity – BOWLING. Local junior high and high school students were invited to join, which made our students both nervous and excited to meet potential friends (or even more). By looking at the scores it seems we need more bowling lessons at Kogakuin, but the important thing is that students had fun and they communicated a lot with their Maltese peers, exchanging Instagram information. Students were so energized by their encounters that they stayed up most of the night looking at their phones without sleeping. Quite a few students were very late to breakfast. But that’s part of life, and students are having rich experiences. No regrets. The same K-san said, "Bowling with the junior and senior high school students was a lot of fun.Everyone was energetic and we quickly became friends. I was also happy that they were happy when I got a strike."
