Nelson Mandela stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” We want our students at Kogakuin to be able to lead and be agents of change in the future. As part of their education one group of students went to Kamakura to participate in a guided historical tour of the city and to visit a special museum exhibit. The tour started on the walkway to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine, famed for its optical illusion of seeming farther away than it really is. There was also a short visit to a Christian church complete with a lecture on how religious groups have helped each other over the centuries in Kamakura.
The group also saw an excavation site that had fossils from 800 years ago still half-covered in the ground. Another spot was a small area that is believed to hold the final grave of the leader of the Hojo clan.
After the walking historical tour, the group visited a museum holding an exhibit for the 13 Lords of the Shogun – a popular NHK drama. The exhibit had an interactive element and the students were able to unlock a secret picture of one of the actors in the drama. They also saw some explanations of how set designers recreated the look of the Kamakura Era, and some pf the storylines that follow the history of the time. At the end of the morning session students were then free to pursue their personal area of interest – mainly lunch.

教育の一環として、あるグループの生徒が鎌倉に行き、ガイド付きの歴史ツアーに参加し、博物館の特別展示を見てきました。
ツアーは鶴岡八幡宮への遊歩道から始まり、実際よりも遠くに見えるという目の錯覚で有名な鶴岡八幡宮を見学しました。
また、キリスト教の教会を訪れ、鎌倉の宗教がどのように助け合ってきたかについての講義を受けました。
また、800年前の化石がまだ半分ほど残っている発掘現場も見学しました。また、北条氏の最後の墓とされる小さな場所も見学しました。
歴史散策の後は、NHK大河ドラマ「鎌倉殿の13人」の展示がある博物館を見学しました。この展示では、ドラマに登場する俳優の秘密の写真を手に入れることができました。
また、セットデザイナーがどのように鎌倉時代を再現したかや、当時の歴史に沿ったストーリーの説明もありました。午前の部終了後は、各自が興味のある分野で自由行動をとりました。
